When most people buy a car, they will typically purchase it from a car dealership or private seller that is fairly local to them. But savvy motorists will tell you that sometimes you will need to travel afar in order to bag yourself a bargain!
Of course, cost isn’t always the primary factor when opting to buy a car that is up for sale a long distance away from you; sometimes people are willing to buy their next cars from afar because they are rare and only a handful of them are up for sale in the entire country!

If you have found your next dream car, but it’s several hundred miles away from you, what is the best way of transporting your car back to your home? Well, there are a few different options available to you, depending on what you would like to go for.
Drive the car back home yourself
Perhaps the easiest thing to do would be to simply drive your new pride and joy back to your home yourself. I know of someone that once travelled about 650 miles to drive their new car back to their home, and they had to make a plane journey down in order to do so!
Most people are willing to do this themselves, as it is by far the cheapest way of transporting your car back home with you. If you decide to go down this route, there are a couple of things that you should bear in mind:
- Find out the best way to travel down – obviously you cannot drive two cars simultaneously, so you will either have to get a lift down to your destination by smiling sweetly at a family member or friend, or you will need to take some form of public transport. As strange as it sounds, it’s worth finding out if flying down is the best bet, as it can sometimes be cheaper (and definitely quicker) than going by train, for example;
- Plan your route home beforehand – the last thing you want to do is get lost or be stuck in traffic on the way home, so make sure you plan your route carefully beforehand.
Get someone else to drive it for you
Another option is to pay for someone else to drive your car to your home for you. There are a number of companies that offer such services, and the drivers will be fully insured to drive your vehicle.
Get it shipped by car transporter
If you have just bought yourself an immaculate used Range Rover Vogue, for example, you would probably prefer it if no-one else but you drove your pride and joy! In such situations, you could instead opt for a company to have it delivered to you on a car transporter.
Get it delivered inside of a shipping container
The problem about car transporters is that they are open to the elements. For the ultimate in safe and secure car delivery, you could instead get your new car delivered to you inside of a shipping container! This is also useful if you live offshore or even in another country to the one where the car is sold, for example.
