Hyundai introduced their sedan car, Elantra, in 1990. The Elantra was making waves globally and going just by the way it looked it was bound to be a winner in India as well. Hyundai Neo Fluidic Elantra in India was launched in 2012. With Elantra, Hyundai was taking a large leap into the executive saloon car class.
Though the Hyundai’s fluidic design is immediately familiar, the Elantra is distinguishable from the other Hyundai’s. The head lamps are slimmer and stretched further back and look sharper. The Elantra also features fog lamps and turn indicators on the ORVMs. The trapezoidal grille has softer edges and there are two sharp lines on the side. The higher waist line and tight glass area makes the Elantra look sportier. The window line is neater than the Verna and the slim two part tail lamps look more like that of the Sonata. The high boot lid has a spoiler lip that has been integrated into it. The Elantra has 16” alloy wheels that completes the striking and attractive package.
The interiors of the Elantra have gone several notches up when compared to the Verna. The multi-layered dashboard flows down towards the central console. The glossy black trim and chrome lining add to the bling. The instrument cluster looks cool and is easy to read too. There are a lot of practical storage spaces around the cabin as well. The dashboard has a digital clock on top with the music system below. Apart from CDs it has connectivity for Bluetooth, USB and AUX as well. The climate control air conditioner has independent temperature controls for the driver and passenger. The Elantra sports keyless start, automatic headlights, cruise control, tilt adjust for the steering wheel, reversing camera, and powered folding cameras. The top variant features a six way power adjust for the driver seat while the passenger seat has to be adjusted manually. The rear passengers get an arm rest which has controls for the music system. The rear passengers get AC ducts as well. The seats are well cushioned and comfortable. The flat floor makes it a little better for the middle passenger.
On the safety front, the Elantra features 6 airbags and hill start assist for convenience.
The diesel version comes with an engine with 1582 cc volume, 125 bhp, 260 NM torque and 190 kmph top speed with mileages of 22.7 kmpl for manual and 19.5 kmpl for auto transmission models. The petrol version has a 1797 cc volume, 146 bhp, 177 NM torque and 195 kmph top speed engine and gives mileages of 16.3 kmpl and 14.5 kmpl for manual and auto transmissions, respectively. The approximate price of the Elantra varies from Rs. 12.74 to Rs. 16.03 lakhs.
