Ford Kuga TDCI Titanium X Sport review

The Ford Kuga is doing really well. So well, in fact, that Ford has seen fit to introduce a new high-end version of the car to satisfy demand from motorists who Ford say are increasingly going for a top of the range Kuga. Titanium X is the most popular trim level, apparently, with prices for that trim starting at £25,396 for a 2WD 1.6 EcoBoost. Now, though, pundits will be able to get their hands on Titanium X Sport trim, which comes with a raft of new features as standard.

X Sport trim bags you a sporty body kit, satellite navigation, rear-view parking camera, privacy glass, and 19-inch alloys. That equipment is on top of Titanium X Trim, which includes leather front heated seats and upholstery, cruise control, dual-zone climate control, DAB radio, and a panoramic roof. You also get automatic wipers and headlights, a heated front windscreen, and self-parking function.

So how much does all of this cost?

The cheapest Ford Kuga (click here) Titanium X Sport rolls in at £29,745 for a 2.0 TDCi 140 2WD. There is a 4WD 2.0 TDCi available for £31,745, but most buyers are expected to go for the 2WD (really, how often are you going to go off road in a Ford Kuga?).

The 2.0 TDCi Kuga is my pick of the range, but it is made sweeter in X Sport trim. The engine is a common rail unit that’s designed to heat up quickly and offer good economy. In 2WD form, it will return a not so shabby 53.3 miles per gallon with a CO2 rating of 139 g /km and in 4WD form it will return 47.9 miles per gallon with a CO2 rating of 154 g/km.

The superior economy of the 2WD is why most buyers will opt for it.

The engine in the 2WD car develops 138 bhp and 236 lb /ft of torque, which is the same as most other 2.0-litre diesel engines at the moment. Power delivery is smooth with the TDCi and the gearing is spot on – there’s always plenty of power whatever gear you are in. On a cold start-up, the engine can sound a little rough, but when it warms up it settles down to a nice hum. On the motorway you can barely hear it through what can only be one heck of a lot of sound proofing.

Boot capacity in the Kuga is pretty good – you get 96-litres more than the previous Kuga, which translates to 481-litres with the rear seats locked into position and if you fold down the rear seats, this more than doubles.

    Overall

The Ford Kuga 2.0 TDCi Titanium X Sport is a car that has it all – looks, performance, economy, and equipment. If you want a car that’s good at everything, this is it, and I expect in the future that there will be some great used Ford from Bristol Street deals on this particular Kuga. I say stick around and see what deals can be had.
