    Being told that you’ve successfully passed your driving test and you’re now able to drive legally and independently is an incredible feeling. You’ll finally get your freedom and the independence that you’ve been craving for so long.

    There’s a lot to learn when you’re behind the wheel with an instructor by your side, but there’s even more to get to grips with when you hit the road on your own. So, with this in mind, we’ve gathered some confidence-building tips for new drivers.

    Don’t Be Afraid to Ask for Help

    Struggling with parallel parking? You’re not alone. If there’s something you’re struggling with even though you’ve passed, it’s nothing to be ashamed of. You can drive to a safe and proficient standard, that much has been proven, so it’s ok to have a few hiccups about certain aspects of driving. Ask someone you know with driving experience to go through your maneuvers with you, as it’ll give you more confidence – practice makes perfect.

    Don’t Put too Much Pressure on Yourself

    Just because you’ve passed your test it doesn’t mean you have to drive to the other side of the country. Even if your friends have recently passed and are seemingly confident and have no hang-ups whatsoever, it doesn’t matter. If you’d prefer to get to grips with local roads first, that’s fine. Try setting yourself little challenges each time you go out. Take different routes or try a different parking maneuver. Don’t put too much pressure on yourself.

    Don’t Be Afraid to Fill Up

    Many new drivers have never filled up at the gas station before. So, having to do it for the first time can be a daunting experience. If it would make you feel better, take someone with you. Or, before you go check which side your fuel cap is on and practice taking it on and off. Make sure you know what fuel to put in!

    Get to Know Your Car

    Do you know how to turn on your lights? Dip your full beams? What about your fog lights or how to demist your windows? Before you hit the road, make yourself familiar with all these things!
