The National Highway Traffic Administration has filed under 30,000 complaints about their cars. Most of the problems the people are facing are with the car’s brake, power trains, handles, controls etc.
The most complained car was Mini with 646 complaints per 100,000 cars. These top 10 cars with the most safety complaints are based on NHTSA report published by Edmunds.com for 2012.
10. Hyundai
Hyundai is on number ten with the least complaints. The least complaints has made the sales rate of the car on rise from many years.
The Sonata model gets the most complaints and more than 1,000 complaints were filed. The common issues the people complained about were related to power trains, interior hardware and electronics, seat belts and air bags.
9. Ford
Ford is America’s best seller in 2010, 2011 and 2012, but with the best selling award, this car has also received number of complaints. 5,000 complaints were filed against the ford 2012 and 60% of them were related to engine and power trains of the car.
8. Volkswagen
The Volkswagen’s model Jetta got the most complaints from the owners. 667 complaints were received and out of them 368 were about the power trains and others were about the body glass, interior and electronics.
7. BMW
The BMW 3 series was the most complained ride. Total complaints are 676 and 175 out of them were against seat belts and air bags, while other complaints were related to the car’s power trains.
6. Nissan Altima
From 2005 to 2012 the Nissan had 38.80 complaints. It’s the 2nd peak ratio of any car brands with 5 million cars sold in the United States. The mostly problems were related to power train of the Nissan.
5. Dodge
2,300 complaints are received against Dodge cars in 2012, with the issues in power train, interior and hardware. The Great Caravan received the more criticism till February however, more than 212,000 Dodges sold in first three months of 2013.
4. Chrysler
The Chryslers was the 10th highest of all the makes with 2.86 million Chrysler sold in between 2005 to 2012 and 1,166 complaints were filed against this car with the 463 problems with power train and 157 about the fuel emission and exhaust system.
In the first three months, the problems comprised power train was 39%. The Town model and Country models come up with the most complaints in February.
3. Smart
Smart received the highest rate of complaints per 100,000 cars sold. In 2012 25 complaints were filed and 44,000 cars sold from 2008 to 2012. The average age of deal in Smart car is over three years and it’s the lowest!
2. Jeep
Second is the Jeep with 69.48 complaints average per 100,000 vehicles sold. Wrangler model was the most awful according to the owners.
The issues were mostly about power trains, axle’s suspensions, chassis suspension, interior electronics, fuel system, exhaust system, steering system etc. It is also considered as least loyal according to the customers.
1. Mini
From 2005 to 2012 Mini Cooper has received the most complaints. So it’s the number one in our list. The common problems most of the buyers faced were about the power trains (169 complaints) , 132 complaints were about the steering wheel, while air bag and seatbelts received additional 81 complaints. The Cooper by mini is the most problematic!
